Surin is a small prestigious area on Phuket’s west coast, in Choeng Thale of Thalang district. It occupies the bay between Bang Tao to the north and Kamala to the south, and it is one of the most expensive places on the island: Amanpuri, The Surin Phuket and Twinpalms stand on the headlands around the beach, and the slopes are given over to private villas. New projects here are few — almost no land is left, so each one is a rare event. Property in Surin is bought for the address and the closeness to the sea rather than for the choice.

An address people know
Surin is known well beyond Phuket. Amanpuri opened here in 1988 — the first hotel of the Aman group and one of those that built the island’s reputation as an expensive resort. The Surin Phuket and Twinpalms followed nearby, and the coastal road between Surin and Bang Tao earned the nickname Millionaires’ Mile for its density of villas. That neighbourhood sets both the price of housing and who lives here.
A compact bay
The beach at Surin is noticeably shorter than its neighbours: a single bay closed off by headlands at both ends, with coarse sand and a quick drop into deep water. It is less crowded than Bang Tao, and by evening it is mostly locals and guests of the nearby hotels who remain. The headland to the north offers a view people drive here for at sunset.
Between two centres
Surin sits exactly between Bang Tao and Kamala, which gives access to the infrastructure of both. For shopping, restaurants and evening life people drive to Bang Tao, minutes away; Kamala to the south is quieter. Surin itself has the small Plaza Surin mall, supermarkets, seafood and European restaurants, but the everyday scale here is resort rather than town.
Few offers
There is almost no land left to build on in Surin: the shore is taken by hotels, the slopes by villas, and the terrain limits height. New condominiums appear one at a time every few years and are usually low-rise. For a buyer that means a short list of options and prices above the neighbouring areas — but also less risk that another complex will go up next door.

Surin is on Phuket’s west coast, in Choeng Thale of Thalang district. Bang Tao lies to the north, Kamala to the south. The international airport is around half an hour away depending on traffic.
How is Surin different from Bang Tao?
In scale and character. Bang Tao is a long resort cluster with Laguna Phuket, shopping streets and dozens of new projects across price levels. Surin is many times smaller: one bay, a handful of high-end hotels, villas on the slopes and the occasional residential project. Prices here are higher and the choice is markedly narrower.
Can a foreigner buy an apartment in Surin?
